What’s been happening …
We have been very busy over the last few weeks and months gathering together some superb prizes for our annual fundraiser – the Christmas Auction 2024. Read on to discover what fabulous things you can bid on!
Only 18 Days Until Bidding Opens…!
With more than 40 prizes up for grabs in our annual Christmas Auction we are hoping there is something for every taste and budget. The star prize is a ‘money can’t buy’ Emmerdale Studio and Village Tour with lunch, kindly donated by ITV 1’s Emmerdale. The lucky winners will get the chance to explore the studios, have lunch in the staff and cast canteen, before heading out to Emmerdale village – on a day they are filming!
Another superlative prize is Dinner For Two in Rudding Park’s new immersive dining experience, Fifty Two. Winners will get the chance to join Head Chef Adam Degg for the ultimate nature-first dining experience starting with cocktails and snacks in the kitchen garden and a guided wander around the vegetables, fruit and plants before moving into a cool shipping container for dining in front of the open kitchen.
You can view the full list of lots via the button below, and keep an eye on our social platforms for photos and insights into all the other wonderful prizes we’ve been gifted as donations.
And remember – bidding opens on Friday 22 November, closing Sunday 1 December – hosted once again by the internationally renowned Tennant’s Auctioneers of Leyburn.
Action Packed Volunteering!
Jennifer Lee our Volunteer and Engagement Officer has been out at Aysgarth Falls after the recent heavy rains river sampling with Stop Ure Pollution and also out to Oak Beck near Harrogate with a group from Stowe Family Law for a clean up day. The team there retrieved: two trolleys, a trike, a satellite dish and lots of other rubbish too! Everyone left high on fresh air, knowing they’d made a positive difference for nature and wildlife. Hello Lamp Post Helps River Nidd
We’ve partnered up with Nidd Action Group, the Environment Agency and Hello Lamp Post, the accessible, AI driven community engagement tool, to give the local people using the River Nidd the means of reporting any pollution issues.
Ten interactive signs now installed in key locations along the river take users, via a QR code scanned with their mobile phones, straight to a messaging portal enabling them to quickly and easily raise the alert if they see signs of pollution. The cutting-edge technology has also been programmed to answer a wide range of questions that the public may have about rivers, offering people on the spot information to practical river questions.
Sarah Lonsdale, our project manager for river enhancement said: “We see these signs as a way of enabling the community to be our eyes on the ground; budding citizen scientists who can spot issues that would otherwise go unnoticed. Getting such information relayed back to us in real time as people witness it, provides the type of evidence required to take the necessary action.
Meet Our New Guy!
Guy Mason is the latest person to join the YDRT team. Guy’s role is to deliver practical NFM (Natural Flood Management) interventions to reduce flood risk in vulnerable North Yorkshire communities, as part of the Ousewem project.
Guy has previously worked for Ribble Rivers Trust, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and managed reserves for seven years delivering several catchment-wide community engagement projects. He also spent two years as a reserve manager for Natural England and managed Lincolnshire’s EU LIFE and Lottery Funded Dynamic Dunescapes Project.
New Look Photos!
We recently partnered up with professional photographer, Monty Rukusen who kindly took and donated some fresh new images for our website and social posts! Charlotte, Mary, Jenny and Victoria were models for the morning and the whole team is thrilled with the results!
