Matthew Lyall
Natural Flood Management Project Officer
Matthew joined the team in October 2023 and is working on our Ousewem partnership with the City of York Council, delivering Natural Flood Management projects across the Swale, Ure, Nidd and Ouse catchments. During his previous role as a habitat restoration operative, Matthew gained practical experience of delivering a range of restoration and nfm projects. He brings a deep understanding of project management, operations and workflow processes, plus a love for GIS mapping and anything technical.
Matthew has an MA in Branding and initially worked in the creative sector as a design and production director, project manager and operations specialist for 15 years before leaving to follow his passion for conservation, living and training on a regenerative farm and rewilding project in Devon, and working as an environmental contractor before joining the Rivers Trust world.
In his spare time, Matthew enjoys making things, from carpentry to knitting he always has a project on the go. He also is a qualified archer and runs a passion project inspiring people to share a square of the garden with wildlife.
