Learning about Rivers

Where has our mobile classroom been?

Learning about Rivers

Project Overview

This project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The aim is to engage and educate in schools and communities about all things to do with rivers. We will engage with schools and wider communities along the Rivers Wharfe, Swale, Ure, Nidd and Ouse, on things to do with Rivers – from habitats and minibeasts, to how rivers work, flooding and natural flood prevention measures.

For further information or to book a visit, please email: education@ydrt.co.uk

Thanks to generous funding by the Heritage Lottery Fund, we now have a mobile classroom lab, which allows us to bring our displays out to you. The van is fitted with:
• a Rivers Table – which shows how rivers work from source to sea
• Microscopes – which allow us to show the minibeasts and riverflies that live in our watercourses
• Displays showing different aspects of rivers and their habitats.

To help towards the running costs of the mobile classroom, a small fee of £50 per visit is charged.

The mobile classroom van is full accessible, thanks to generous sponsorship from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund.
