Diffuse Metal Mine Remediation Project Update!

Read more about the diffuse metal pollution remediation project YDRT has been leading on in collaboration with The Coal Authority, Environment Agency North Pennines National Landscape and The Tees Rivers Trust. This work is part of the Tees Swale; naturally connected project and co-funded by the Defra Water and Abandoned Metal Mine Programme and National Lottery Heritage Fund.

It is great to compare the before with the after picture taken a few months post-delivery. Its amazing how quickly plants have grown on the metal contaminated wastes – increasing biodiversity and carbon capture while reducing mobilisation of metals to the river. We can’t wait to see how the sites develop over the next few years!
Thanks to the contractors TerrAffix Ltd and Haywood Contracting (Rupert Haywood) for enabling the project delivery.
