Mid Swale Tributaries
Project Overview
Improving fish passage and restoring natural river processes on Skeeby Beck through habitat restoration, partnerships and long-term monitoring.

Restoring fish passage and river habitats on Skeeby Beck
Across the Mid-Swale catchment, we are working with farmers and landowners - particularly around the Dalton–Holme–Skeeby waterbody - to drive forward vital river restoration projects. In partnership with the Environment Agency, local angling groups and the Wild Trout Trust (WTT), we are developing schemes to enhance in-channel habitats and remove or mitigate barriers to fish migration on Skeeby Beck. These restoration efforts will improve fish passage, reconnect fragmented habitats and create access to new spawning and feeding grounds.
By supporting
fish population resilience and restoring natural
river processes, the project strengthens the long-term health of the freshwater ecosystem. To track progress, YDRT and WTT are conducting regular
fish surveys upstream and downstream of key barriers, providing essential data on the effectiveness of these interventions.
