Keeping Ure Rivers Cool

A lack of shade from bankside trees causes problems for aquatic life, particularly during the summer months and in drought conditions.

With support from the Dales to Vale Rivers Network partnership, funding from the Environment Agency and in partnership from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, Woodland Trust, Wild Trout Trust and University of Leeds, we planted native riparian trees at priority sites along the Ure catchment in 2022. Once established, the trees will cast dappled shade and help cool the river, as well as stabilising the banks.
