Beautiful photographs, captured across the seasons, celebrating the rivers & wildlife of the Yorkshire Dales

A huge thank you to everyone who entered our photography competition. We were blown away by the quality and creativity of the entries, with so many beautiful images capturing the special character of our Yorkshire Dales rivers and the wildlife that depends on them.

Following the final stage of judging, 12 winning photographs were selected, representing the four seasons. All 12 winning images feature in our 2027 calendar, bringing a little piece of the Yorkshire Dales into your home throughout the year.

The winning photographs were also showcased at our Rivers4Life exhibition at the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes earlier this year.

This family-friendly exhibition offered something for everyone, with beautiful river creature costumes to dress up in, hands-on activities for children, and lots of information and artworks bringing our rivers and their wildlife to life.

Helping people connect with Yorkshire's rivers

The photography competition and exhibition are part of our wider Rivers4Life project, a three-year programme made possible thanks to National Lottery players.

Through Rivers4Life, we are working with schools and communities in the catchments of the rivers Wharfe, Swale, Ure, Nidd and Ouse, using creative activities and the arts to connect with new audiences and inspire children and communities to discover more about rivers and wildlife. By encouraging people to explore, appreciate and understand their local rivers, we hope to inspire a greater appreciation of these precious environments and the importance of protecting them for future generations.
